Dellwood Baptist Church faithfully supports local, regional, and global mission work to proclaim the gospel and to serve our neighbors. In addition to the mission work listed below, individual Sunday school classes take on mission projects as the Spirit leads them.
Local Missions
Hands of Hope is an outreach of the church, which helps those in the community needing temporary assistance with groceries, clothes, shelter, and bills. The church also offers help to those in the community who need help heating their homes in the winter by cutting and delivering firewood. Day of Caring is another local mission of the church, where members use their time and skills to make a simple home repair or build a necessary addition, such as a handicap ramp. Dellwood Baptist Church gives an offering to the Broyhill Baptist Children’s Home located in Clyde. Broyhill offers caring homes to children from broken families. Dellwood Baptist Church also partners with Jonathan Valley School by furnishing school supplies for needy children and physically working on the grammar school campus to help keep the building and grounds neat and attractive. Dellwood Baptist Church has a food pantry managed by the youth of the church. Those in need are encouraged to call or text 828-246-2499 to be placed on the distribution list.
Throughout the year, the church and/or individual members support local organizations which demonstrate the love of Jesus with their works. Recipients have included Hearts with Hands, which helps communities rocked by natural disaster, Life Challenge, which helps women overcome addictions, and the Smoky Mountain Pregnancy Center, which encourages woman to choose life over abortion.
Regional Missions
Dellwood Baptist Church participates in the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering, which supports missionaries and their work in the United States, Canada, and their territories. The offering is named for Annie Walker Armstrong (1850-1938) whose work to rally churches to give more and reach more people with the gospel of Jesus Christ, lead to the formation of the Woman’s Missionary Union, which is now known as the North American Mission Board. Every dollar of the offering goes to missionaries and their work of sharing the life-transforming gospel of Jesus.
Global Missions
Dellwood Baptist Church participates in the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, which supports missionaries and their work worldwide. Lottie Moon (1840-1912) served 39 years as a missionary to China. In honor of Lottie whose letters to the United States had challenged Southern Baptist women to provide the funds for missionary work in China, the Woman’s Missionary Union named the yearly Christmas Offering after Lottie. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is managed by the International Mission Board. Operation Christmas Child and Gideons International are other ministries supported by Dellwood Baptist Church. During the Christmas season, church members participate in Operation Christmas Child by filling shoe boxes with school supplies, hygiene items, toys, and sweets. These shoes boxes are then distributed to children around the world through the Samaritan’s Purse ministry. The church also donates to Gideons International, a ministry whose members share the Scriptures in schools, colleges, prisons, jails, hospitals, and medical offices and provide Bibles and New Testaments in various languages throughout the world free of charge.
